The starting boat’s Jolly Roger snaps in the wind. Heather Strout Thompson takes her place at the wheel of her boat, Gold Digger, and braces for acceleration. As one of only a few women in the sport, Thompson says she feels her record has won her the respect of her male opponents.

Exploring Your Health - Vaccine Reluctance
Retired nurse Rose Strickland has 42 years of experience under her belt. She says watching the nation’s frontline health care workers struggle to keep pace with the exponential spread of COVID-19 was nothing she could have prepared for.
So Strickland did what she knew she could, enrolled in Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine trial at Weill Cornell Medicine. She also encouraged all three of her children to participate in vaccine trials too.
This episode received a 2021 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and is under consideration for a National Edward R. Murrow Award!

“When life isn’t fair, feels like it’s not fair, we can still go through life with grace,” Mark Brace said during an interview in Feb. 2020, less than a year after he was diagnosed with rectal cancer. He was 38 years old at the time.
About 90% of colorectal cancer cases – cancers of the colon and rectum – occur among people older than 50, but a growing number of younger adults are being diagnosed with the disease.
The alarming trend made headlines last summer with the death of actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away at 43 due to complications from colon cancer.

The Everglades, in the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula, is an environment found nowhere else on Earth. This subtropical wilderness—the largest in the country—is home to more than just alligators. For generations, the crystal-clear waters of the Everglades have supported the unique and diverse cultures of those who live there.
Since Florida’s statehood in 1845, the government has been draining, damming and dredging—managing the waters of the Everglades. The resulting highway, appropriately named the Tamiami Trail, stretches from Tampa to Miami. It was the first road connecting the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts in Southern Florida.

The citrus industry has helped nourish and sustain Florida for decades. Oranges are intertwined with our identity — from our breakfast tables to our state’s license plates. The beating heart of the industry in Central Florida can be found along a 60-some mile stretch of U.S. Highway 27.
Generation after generation had expansive farms and groves, as welcome centers doled out orange juice to eager Sunshine State visitors.
Today, many groves have turned to dust, wiped clean by development, decades of devastating freezes, cankers, hurricanes, or, most recently, fast-spreading citrus greening.
